Alan Li

Alan Li (BMus)

Alan Li is an up-and-coming Pianist and Tubist that can be seen often in the Vancouver music scene. He began his musical journey with the piano at age 6, quickly establishing himself as pianist known for his musicality and rhythm well beyond his age, as well as showing early interest on Baroque music and 20th century Chinese composers. The love for music carried on, and he was able complete his RCM 10 with honours in 2012. Wanting to not only further develop his repertoire and musicality beyond RCM, but also playing for enjoyment for the first time, Alan studied with Anna Levy and began to target pieces such as Chopin’s Piano concerto No.2 and Bach’s Piano Partitas.

Understanding the importance of musical education for students, Alan has made several strides in community engagement in order to pass on relevant and important knowledge to further capture the interest of students of all ages. He can be seen teaching brass students at his old high school in Port Moody as well as engaging with kids and adults at VSO’s day of music. Beyond this, Alan has a successful track record in teaching piano to beginners and seasoned piano players alike by providing them with a well-rounded music education beyond what is on the page.

Now, in his final year at UBC’s music program, he has already made a mark in the local scene, being heard in performances with the UBC symphony orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Coquitlam Youth Orchestra, Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra well as locally acclaimed brass group, Vancouver Brass Collective and their up-and-coming studio recording release as well as accompanying various soloist around the lower mainland.
