2024 Mastery Spring Break Camps

Mastery School of Music is pleased to announce the 2024 Spring Break Camps. These one-week camps will take place over the two-week period from March 18th to March 28th. Each camp is scheduled half days from Monday through Friday in each week (March 18-22 and March 25-28), either mornings or afternoons. The Mastery campus is located on the UBC Campus in Wesbrook Village at 3396 Shrum Lane. Camp registrations tend to fill up rapidly, and you are encouraged to register early.

Camp and Add-on Descriptions

Mini Music Makers

Bursting with giggles, creativity, and melodies, this magical camp invites young maestros, ages 4-6, to explore the joy of music in a fun and vibrant setting. Through movement and music and learning disguised as games, students learn note-reading, rhythm-reading, and ear training all while trying out a variety of instruments including xylophones, recorders, piano, ukulele, and various percussion instruments. Running Monday-Friday, from 9:30-noon (including a snack break!) students work together to prepare familiar melodies as a group and learn music basics from interactive musical stories.

Beyond the music, our camp is not just about learning – it’s about having a blast! We’ll be playing games and enjoying a fun, interactive atmosphere.

To participate fully, bring your own guitar or rent one for an additional $15 at registration. Additionally, we recommend each student have an iPad/iPhone with the latest version of GarageBand loaded on it. Join us for a harmonious experience where passion meets learning. Unleash your creativity, discover your rhythm, and groove to the beat of your own musical journey!

Songwriting And Production

The Songwriting and Production camp offers an introduction to the art and craft of songwriting and music production. Students will study common pop song structures and chord progressions to spark their musical creativity. Through a combination of theoretical concepts, practical exercises, and creative projects, students will gain an understanding of the songwriting and production process. Students may bring their own instruments or an iPad with GarageBand to write and record their songs.

No formal composition experience is required, but a willingness to experiment creatively is essential. Some basic music theory will be covered during the camp and some proficiency in playing a musical instrument or singing is welcome but not necessary.

Music Coding

In this camp, participants will explore the exciting connection between music and coding via computer games! By building their own game piece by piece, participants will gain basic coding literacy and learn how music often fits into a bigger picture. This camp is perfect for creative minds!

Requirements: Bringing your own iPad or laptop is required. No coding or music experience is required.
