Iris Hwang (MMus)

Iris Hwang is a freelance clarinetist. She’s currently a member of the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Vancouver. She studied economics for undergrad and holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree. Unfortunately, economics is really not her thing. She decided music is her true love so she came all the way to Canada and received a Master of Music Degree from Brandon University.

She won the Albert Johnson Memorial Trophy for Woodwinds in Brandon Festival of the Arts two years in a row during her study of Master degree. Iris has performed with numerous ensembles in various festivals including ICA Clarinet Festival in Louisiana, National Music Festival in Edmonton, Canadian Music Educators’ Association Conference, and WSO New Music Festival in Winnipeg. Iris was inspired by her professor Dr. Catherine Wood in Brandon to discover the charm of music and is hoping to bring this to more people by preforming and teaching.

In addition to various performing experiences, she has also conducted many teaching clinics at different schools in Manitoba and British Columbia. As a teacher, Iris strives to inspire students of all levels to find their passion in playing clarinet and using their talents to create their own unique musical world. Her goal is to guide all students on their musical journey and enable them to appreciate the wonders of music.
