Allen Zhou (BMus, MMus)

Allen picked up the cello at the age of eight, first studying with Kevin Wei, and then furthered his
studies with Audrey Nodwell at the Vancouver Academy of Music. He received his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Ottawa under the guidance of his cello professor, Paul Marleyn. During Allen’s undergraduate studies, he had the opportunity to be a part of and perform with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. He was performer in many piano trios, string quartets, and quintets. His chamber groups performed at various venues and masterclasses throughout the year. His cello ensemble had the valuable opportunity to play for one of the Berlin Philharmonic’s cellists, Knut Weber.

Aside from music, Allen was also recruited as a mentor for first-year students at the University of Ottawa, where he coached students academically, socially, and culturally.

Allen obtained his Master’s degree in cello performance on scholarship at the University of Montreal with distinguished cellist, Yegor Dyachkov. Throughout his post-secondary education, he taught students ranging from six years of age to adults and prepared them for RCM exams.

Currently, Allen is teaching students and performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles in Vancouver.
