Yen-Han Chen (BMus, MMus)

Yen-Han Chen was born in Taiwan and started his musical journey at the age of 13. He started first with piano lessons and then clarinet lessons at 16. Soon he joined various competitions in the region, on both clarinet and piano.

He completed his bachelor’s degree at National University of Taiwan in education and music. His major instrument is clarinet, and his secondary instrument is piano. He won the concerto competition at the University, playing L. Spohr’s Clarinet Concerto with the University orchestra.

While at university and since, he has taught private lessons on clarinet, piano, in ear training, and in theory. After working for three years, he traveled to Germany and started a short-term study on clarinet performance with Helge Harding, the clarinet lecturer at University of Art in Berlin. He then returned to Taiwan and finished his master’s degree in clarinet performance. He is now enrolled in his second master’s degree at UBC. He loves teaching young students and brings his passion for music and his friendly personality to encourage students to reach their full potential.
