Thomas Cameron (BMus)

Thomas Cameron is a talented and creative teacher, performer, and composer. For over ten years, he has inspired his students to develop the focus, discipline, and passion it takes to express themselves through music. Having been instructed by acclaimed jazz drummer, Gary Tomlin, in Kitchener, Ontario and Jonathan Wade of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, he is well versed in both classical and contemporary music styles. He is a skilled performer, both as a soloist and as an ensemble player, and has performed with many different groups in a wide and eclectic range of genres. As an orchestral percussionist, he has performed with ensembles, including the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Wellington Winds, the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra, and the University of Ottawa Orchestra. As a drum set player, he has accompanied many different artists, jazz bands, and other contemporary music groups performing, in all kinds of venues. Before moving to Vancouver, Mr. Cameron lived in Ottawa and worked with the Ottawa Youth Orchestra Academy as a percussion sectional coach and led a youth percussion ensemble. A graduate of the University of Ottawa School of Music, he has a Bachelor of Music degree, specializing in performance. His interest in improvisation, new music, and music technology has led to compositions and experiments which explore the relationships between life and rhythm through acoustic and electronic instruments. Mr. Cameron is passionate about sharing his love for music with people of all ages and skill levels and offers a flexible, yet structured, and thoughtful approach to learning music.
