Dr Nikola Markovic (DMA)

Nikola Markovic is a Serbian-born pianist based in Vancouver. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of British Columbia, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Terence Dawson.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Novi Sad, where he studied with Rita Kinka, and his master’s degree from Georgia State University, where he studied with Sergio Gallo. Throughout his studies, Nikola participated in numerous international masterclasses and had the opportunity to work with distinguished pianists and pedagogues, including Sándor Falvai, Sergei Kurdjakov, Christoph Berner, Marina Lomazov, Rustem Hayroudinoff, Konstantin Bogino, Thomas Hecht, and Éric Le Sage.

An experienced teacher, Nikola has successfully prepared students from beginner through advanced levels, including students who have achieved high distinctions in Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. He is an RCM-certified teacher, and his students have won national and international competitions, with some earning showcase performances at Carnegie Hall in New York. As an active performer, Nikola has given solo recitals and appeared as a concerto soloist throughout Europe and the United States. In Vancouver, he is a frequent collaborator and regularly performs in a flute-piano duo.

As a recording artist, he has made recordings for Radio Television of Serbia and Radio Novi Sad. Nikola is a first-prize winner of the International Protégé Piano Competition, which resulted in a debut performance at Carnegie Hall. He was also the first-prize winner of the Georgia State Concerto Competition and the Atlanta Music Club Competition, as well as a prize winner at the International Piano Competition “Isidor Bajic” in Serbia.
