Students may begin composition classes after the first year of private lessons. We believe that all children can compose music and that this is an important element in creativity and motivating children to continue their music studies. Compositions will be showcased in the final recital of each semester.
In this creative music making class, students will learn to improvise our own music. By spontaneously creating and performing together, the class will focus on children’s play, imagination, and creativity through free and directed improvisations. Children will also be encouraged to explore, create, and discover their own musical ideas and inspirations from engaging with various arts-based activities (i.e., sound exploration, storytelling, and drawing).
The popular summer camps in composition and improvisation are taught in the afternoons for two, one week sessions. Computers are used in these camps. More information is available at UBC camps.
