Theory/Composition Classes
All Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada practical examinations from grade five onward require a theoretical examination for certification. Mozart School of Music offers either private theory lessons or group classes. Basic, intermediate and advanced rudiments (level one, two, and three) will be held weekly for 45 minute sessions for 12 weeks. Harmony, history, analysis and counterpoint require 60 minute classes and usually require 26-28 weeks to complete and be ready for theoretical examinations. Theoretical examinations are held in January, May or August. Attendance is required in all classes to bring the best examination results. Homework of approximately 1-2 hours/week is to be expected.
Composition classes are encouraged for all private lesson instrument instruction. Composition classes are fun, creative and enhance the skill on the instrument studied in the private lesson. At Mozart School of Music we encourage all students to enrol in composition classes. Children may begin composition classes after the first year of private lessons. We believe that all children can compose music and that this is an important element in creativity and maintaining children in music instruction. Composition classes are held for a complete semester, are 45-60 minutes in length and are held once/week. Compositions will be showcased in the final recital of each semester.
